This book examines a core topic in traditional librarianship: classification. Classification has often been treated as a subset of cataloguing and indexing, with relatively few basic textbooks concentrating solely on the theory and practice of classifying resources. This book attempts to redress the balance somewhat. The aim is to demystify a complex subject by providing a sound theoretical underpinning, together with practical advice and the promotion of practical skills. Complex Variables and Applications (8th Ed.)
This book is a revision of the seventh edition, which was published in 2004. That edition has served, just as the earlier ones did, as a textbook for a one-term introductory course in the theory and application of functions of a complex variable. This new edition preserves the basic content and style of the earlier editions, the first two of which were written by the late Ruel V. Churchill alone. The first objective of the book is to develop those parts of the theory that are prominent in applications of the subject. The second objective is to furnish an introduction to applications of residues and conformal mapping. With regard to residues, special emphasis is given to their use in evaluating real improper integrals, finding inverse Laplace transforms, and locating zeros of functions. As for conformal mapping, considerable attention is paid to its use in solving boundary value problems that arise in studies of heat conduction and fluid flow. Hence the book may be considered as a companion volume to the authors' text “Fourier Series and Boundary Value Problems,” where another classical method for solving boundary value problems in partial differential equations is developed.

Field and Wave Electromagnetics (2nd Ed.)
Stated in a simple fashion, electromagnetics is the study of the effects of electric charges at rest and in motion. From elementary physics we know that there are two kinds of charges: positive and negative. Both positive and negative charges are sources of an electric field. Moving charges produce a current, which gives rise to a magnetic field. Here we tentatively speak of electric field and magnetic field in a general way; more definitive meanings will be attached to these terms later. A field is a spatial distribution of a quantity, which may or may not be a function of time. A time-varying electric field is accompanied by a magnetic field, and vice versa. In other words, timevarying electric and magnetic fields are coupled, resulting in an electromagnetic field. Under certain conditions, time-dependent electromagnetic fields produce waves that radiate from the source.
